I hope you notice the significant difference in the quality of the picture on the front screen. Dominica have been in and have replaced the old VGA display cable with a HDMI cable and the results are stark. The colours almost perfectly replicate what is seen on the screen – no more
embarrassment when families supply photos of their loved ones – all the details will be clear. Even the image on the back screen is 100% on what it was. It is with sadness this week that we farewell Christine Stoner who has been running weekly watercolour painting classes for us on
Thursdays since the 7th of August bringing in $405 plus 14 weeks’ worth of coffees and cake @ $8 a head easily adding another $300 through the cafe. One person’s answer to “what can I do to improve church
finances?” Christine has donated her time and skill and I know the classes have been enjoyed very much and she will be missed terribly. There is a growing trend within our culture to request “no funeral when I die.” On one level, this is very humble and selfless, but the reality is, a funeral is not for the person who died, but those of us left to grieve and wonder how will we do like now it’s been changed irrevocably forever. Repeatedly I hear from friends and family “but we’ve had no closure.” Funerals/memorial services allow us to grieve corporately. We don’t love going to them – many people loathe them, but they enable us to honour someone we love; to share hope of faith in a loving God and therefore eternal life; to make the persons death a reality; and enable story sharing of memories that will last forever.

Newsletter 9th November

We have new tables! Sadly they are not really any different to the ones we have had – but at this stage the legs will press into rings underneath. We had a shipment of “moulded legs” tables – but when we opened them, they were just the same as what we already had, so we were refunded and have chosen to buy cheaper tables with the determination to sell them off when the clasp breaks underneath. At best guess the last lot of tables are at least 10 years old – so we should be right! The Brisbane Festival Male Voice Choir were wonderful again, sharing a story of faith through their performance. Last year they managed to recruit someone from our audience – pretty chuffed about that! It was lovely to have my folks up for a few days – always willing to participate in bowls and whatever else is on. Last Sunday marked the 2 year anniversary of the 5pm service, and whilst we are not large in number, we have enjoyed the freedom to be less traditional, and have birthed some ministry options such as ‘Supper@6’ and the movie night. As I have stated so many times before, what is even more exciting is how many of the evening people feel comfortable in the 9am service – such a gift. The constant gift that David brings each Sunday with his literary skills won’t ever be taken for granted – God definitely inspires his writing. ‘The Railway Man’ is a movie I would highly recommend – it certainly makes forgiveness look easier in our own contexts. Alos ‘The case for Christ’ is a movie about Lee Strobel’s conversion – and it can be rented via YouTube or Apple TV.
